“The 300 block of South Salina is the psychological heart of the city. For more than a decade this block has been an all-too-visible reminder of the work that remains to complete the downtown’s transformation.”
The Witherill Building located at 300 South Salina Street in downtown Syracuse is a beautiful Italianate structure dating back to 1855. The adaptive reuse of this structure will hopefully bring life, art, and culture back to the heart of downtown which has been neglected for so long.
concept: intersection X connection
urban industrialism X sustainable environmentalism | high fashion X eco-chic
Intersections appear in the space by the juxtaposition of materials, as well as the intersections of spaces & the connection each one holds to the other. In a way, the spaces are all interconnected in a closed-loop kind of way. The artists that live on the second floor, produce art or music for sale on the first floor. The coffee house is a space where people can cross paths for ideas & inspiration. The Art & Found is an intersection of art, culture & fashion in a sustainable way an educational tool where people can learn how to change the fashion industry. The space itself will be a sensual experience that will entice customers to linger & return.
